CTM Card

What it is

The CTM Card is a contactless electronic card onto which all travel tickets issued by CTM can be loaded, and which allows validation simply by holding it close to the validator.

Personalised

Personal, with photo. Ideal for passes and students.

Impersonal

Transferable, without photo. Perfect for occasional or shared use.

Request for personalised CTM Card (with photo)

The CTM Card is issued free of charge at the CTM Point at Viale Trieste 151, Cagliari. To obtain one, you must:

  1. Complete the dedicated form in duplicate, available at all CTM Points (for minors the form must be signed by the parents);
  2. Provide a passport-sized photo;
  3. Indicate the requested customer profile, if any;
  4. Students must also sign a substitute declaration (for minors, to be signed by the parents), contained in the Card application form, confirming student status.

All personal CTM passes can only be issued on a personalised (named) CTM Card, with the exception of the Over 65 discounted monthly pass, for which — although the personalised CTM Card is recommended — the pass can also be purchased on an impersonal Card by completing the back of the card with personal details and presenting the travel ticket together with an identity document.

Card customer profile

The fares for subscription tickets in the regional fare system vary according to the user's profile. Profiles may vary based on the user's age (e.g. Over 65) or a specific status (e.g. Students or disadvantaged categories).

When the CTM card is issued, the user is assigned the corresponding requested profile.

The profile may be permanent (e.g. the Over 65 profile) or subject to annual renewal (e.g. student profile).

Duplicate personalised CTM Card

In the event of loss, theft, deterioration or malfunction, the CTM Card can be blocked and a replacement can be requested for €5. Replacement due to a malfunction not attributable to the customer is free. The duplicate is issued at the CTM Point at Viale Trieste 151, Cagliari.

To obtain one, you must:

  1. Complete the dedicated form (download it by clicking HERE), available at the CTM Point (for minors the form must be signed by the parents);
  2. Present the theft or loss report filed with the relevant Authorities; alternatively, a substitute declaration may be signed (for minors, to be signed by the parents in the same duplicate request form, attaching an unauthenticated copy of the signatory's identity document);
  3. Provide a passport photo if you wish to replace the old one already printed on the CTM Card.

Request for impersonal CTM Card (without photo)

  • CTM Point at Viale Trieste, 159 – Cagliari
  • CTM Point at Via Brigata Sassari – Quartu Sant'Elena
  • Authorised CTM resellers

Usage rules (personalised and impersonal CTM Card)

All travel tickets on the CTM Card — both single tickets and passes — must always be validated when boarding: both at the start of the journey (check-in) and when changing vehicle (transfer). The travel ticket on the card is validated by holding it close to the validator. As confirmation of successful validation, the validator emits a sound accompanied by a green light; the expiry of the travel ticket is shown on the display and, in the case of multi-trip tickets, the number of remaining journeys. After 30 seconds from validation, when the ticket is held close again, the validator emits a different sound accompanied by a red light, and the display indicates that validation has already been carried out, showing the travel ticket expiry and any remaining journeys (for multiple tickets) on the card.

Multi-trip cards (multiple single-trip tickets or 12-trip 90-minute books) may be used by more than one person at the same time, provided the validations for additional passengers are carried out within 30 seconds of the first validation. After 30 seconds, it is no longer possible to add further passengers. The use of multiple trips on a single card to carry more than one passenger at the same time is conditional on all passengers travelling the same route. In this case, any transfers are carried out by holding the card close to the validator just once for all passengers.

The number of remaining trips and the expiry date of the ticket loaded on the card can be checked at all validators on the vehicles 30 seconds after validation, at CTM Points and at enabled resellers (click HERE to see them on the map).
